Papilio lorquinianus
Papilio lorquinianus, the sea green swallowtail, is a butterfly of the family Papilionidae. It is found in the Moluccas (Morotai, Ternate, Halmahera, Bacan and Seram) and in western Irian Jaya. The first description was in 1865 by C. & R. Felder. With a wingspan of 9.0 – 11.0 cm. The butterfly is black with iridescence blue/turquoise and green areas. Hind wings have tails. he forewings are black. Nearby the body there is a big iridescence turquoise and green area, which contain one little black spot. The pinion is powdered by green scales. In back there is an area of special scales like a pelt. This pelt is typically for the male, because the flavours of this pelt should allure the female.
