Charaxes fournierae, the euphaedra charaxes, is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It is found in Guinea, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda. The habitat consists of lowland evergreen forests. The brush-footed butterfly, “Charaxes fournierae“ is a member of the Nymphalidae family. The species Charaxes was described for the fi rst time by the lepidopterist Ferdinand Ochsenheimer and includes more than 180 types. A common characteristic connects the members of this family: They only possess two functional leg pairs. The two legs in the front are a reduced pair of forelegs which only serve as cleaning paws. That is why the Nymphalidae are also called brush-footed butterflies. They are found in tropical regions in Central Africa. This coin edition is as unique as this exotic butterfly.
