Parantica celona (The Ceylon Tiger)

 

The Ceylon tiger (Parantica taprobana) is a species of nymphalid butterfly in the Danainae subfamily. It is endemic to Sri Lanka.Parantica, commonly called tigers, is an Old World genus of butterflies in subfamily Danainae of family Nymphalidae. They are found in southeastern Asia, Indonesia, Papua-New Guinea, and the Philippines. Many of these species are endemic to islands and considered endangered, vulnerable, or threatened according to the IUCN Red List.  For other butterflies called tigers see the genus Danaus. Parantica cleona is butterfly endemic to Indonesia which was described by Hans Fruhstorfer in 1892.
