Papilio maackii tutanus

 

Papilio maackii is a butterfly of the Palaearctic ecozone (Asia). The distribution extend from the Southeast of Russia to China and Japan.Papilio maackii is a butterfly occurring in Asia ( butterflies ) from the family of the chickweed (Papilionidae). The art epithet honors the Russian naturalist Richard Karlowitsch Maack . The wingspan  is 120 to 140 millimeters. The species is characterized by a slight sexual dimorphism . In the males, the front wing top is black, which depending on the light incidence, however, strongly greenish, turquoise or bluish shimmer and is traversed with dark veins. The hind wing top shines blue to turquoise and is darkened in the Submarginalregion . On the outer edge runs a series of dark bow marks. Near the apex there is an eye patch. The females are similar to the males, shimmering weaker and distinguished by some brightly colored drawing elements and a reddish patch tape on the outer edge of the hind wings. All of the drawings on the top seem to be on the undersides of the wings, but they are less shining. Copies of the summer generation are larger and darker colored. The hind wings carry broad tail processes.
